1274) Helen Varner Vanderbilt Frye

Helen Varner Vanderbilt Frye (1908–1979). American fashion designer, milliner (hat making), photographer, sculptor, portrait artist, amateur architect and rancher, with a deep love of land and horses.
She married two very prominent men: Cornelius Vanderbilt Jr. (Neil), and Jack Frye, co-founder and long-time president of Transcontinental & Western Air (TWA), and CEO of Aniline and Film Corp. Helen was said to be a pilot, and spent more time in the air with her husband Jack than most women of that time-frame (1938-1950).
After divorcing her in 1950, Jack Frye married showgirl Emily Nevada Smith.
At the end of Helen's life she managed the Frye Ranch at Sedona Arizona, which she owned and where her ashes were scattered. She is the only person to be laid to rest there.

1220) Hazel Brooks

Hazel Brooks (1924 – 2002). American actress.
The daughter of a sea captain, Brooks was born in Cape Town, South Africa. Her father died when she was three years old, and she moved with her mother to Brooklyn, New York.
Brooks became a model for Harry Conover when she was 16. A talent scout picked her and five other models to appear in the film Du Barry Was a Lady (1943). She made a series of pictures at the studio during the 1940s, culminating with a lead role in 1947 Body and Soul with John Garfield.
She had captured almost as much attention three years earlier in 1944 when, at age 19, she married the long-time head of her studio's fabled art department, Cedric Gibbons, then 49. The wedding occurred on October 25, 1944. Although the age difference inspired a certain amount of winking in the gossip columns at the time, the marriage proved a strong one and lasted until Gibbons' death in 1960. Brooks subsequently married Dr. Rex Ross (1908-1999), a surgeon and founder of the Non-invasive Vascular Clinic at Hollywood Hospital.
In the years after her retirement from films, she became a skilled still photographer. She also worked actively for a number of children's charities.

Patrick O'Higgins (1922 - 1980). Photographer and publicist for Helena Rubinstein. He also wrote Madame, a biography about her. He was of French and Irish origins and during World War II served with the Irish Guards.

Thomas Myles Steinbeck (1944 – 2016). American screenwriter, photographer and journalist. He published numerous works of fiction, including short stories and novels. He was the elder son of novelist John Steinbeck and his second wife, singer-composer Gwyndolyn Conger.

Max Nash (1941 - 2018). Photographer who covered conflicts in Southeast Asia and the Middle East.
He worked first for The New York Times before joining the Associated Press bureau in Brussels in 1963. After working in Cambodia, he covered the Israeli occupation of Lebanon, the Palestinian uprising and riots in the West Bank and Gaza in the late 1980s. Those heavy combat assignments were followed by the First Gulf War and a rash of bombings in Israel in the mid-1990s.
He later transferred to London, covering the British royals, the violence in Northern Ireland, Red Carpet events and car racing.

Louis-Jacques-Mandé Daguerre (1787 – 1851), better known as Louis Daguerre. French artist and photographer, recognized for his invention of the daguerreotype process of photography. He became known as one of the fathers of photography. Though he is most famous for his contributions to photography, he was also an accomplished painter and a developer of the diorama theatre.

Gerta Pohorylle (1910 – 1937), known professionally as Gerda Taro. German war photographer active during the Spanish Civil War. She is regarded as the first woman photojournalist to have died while covering the frontline in a war.
