Owen Vincent Madden (1891 – 1965), known as Owney Madden and
nicknamed "The Killer". Leading underworld figure in Manhattan, most
notable for his involvement in organized crime during Prohibition. He
also ran the famous Cotton Club and was a leading boxing promoter in the
1930s.
He was born in Leeds, England, and moved to New York in 1901, along with his mother and brother (his father died in 1932).
