In the Bible, David is described as "ruddy":
1 Samuel 16:12 "He sent, and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, and withal of beautiful eyes, and goodly to look upon."
1 Samuel 17:42 "And when the Philistine looked about, and saw David, he disdained him; for he was but a youth, and ruddy, and withal of a fair countenance."
The original word for "ruddy" is "admoni", but whether it refers to hair colour or skin complexion is still debated. On the internet you can find lots of pages on this subject.
In the Italian Bible David is described as "fulvo", red-haired.
