James Bruce (1730 – 1794). Scottish traveller and travel writer who
spent more than a dozen years in North Africa and Ethiopia, where he
traced the origins of the Blue Nile.
- “Whether in European dress
or the native robes he loved to affect, Bruce was striking to look at:
6ft 4in, broad chested and red haired. He was a skilled horseman, a
deadly shot and an indefatigable fighter.” http://www.electricscotland.com/histo…/other/james_bruce.htm
- “But Bruce was not just a giant physically (six foot four, with dark
red hair, he stood seven feet tall in the armour he later wore as an
Abyssinian captain of horse)” https://www.theguardian.com/books/2000/feb/05/biography
